letter 2

Dear Dr. McMillan,

Following my discussions with Dr. McGregor, I would like to apply for a position in your research team in Edinburgh for one year.
I am a 38-year-old researcher who graduated in hand surgery in 2003. Since then, I have been working as a specialist registrar in Dublin Teaching Hospital as part of Dr. Melville’s team involved in fracture repair surgery. I have already performed operations in 124 patients. My particular research interest, however, is in rehabilitation following this type of surgery and I have been following the developments in your innovative approach very closely.
As you will see in my CV, I have published three papers on the evaluation of physiotherapy in rehabilitation after fracture repair and I am now keen to build on my experience by working with other specialists in the field. I am self-motivated and highly committed to further research in this field. I am friendly and have a good working relationship with my colleagues.    I am sure that I will be able to make a valuable contribution to the work of your team and the success of your research projects. I would very much appreciate the opportunity to meet you in person to discuss my application, and I will be able to travel to Edinburgh at a time that is convenient for you. Please find enclosed a copy of my CV, which will provide you with further details of my experience.
I hope that my application will be of interest to you and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,

Julia Smith, MD
